In this days moving high number of containers in a short time is essential for high efficiency Terminals. One way to reach this is increasing cycle speed. However, progress in this area has proved difficult. Other solution is to increase the productivity of each lift cycle, Tandem spreaders can handle 2x 40 ft containers or even 4x 20 ft. What do you think about them (pros and cons)?

TCP , a container terminal in Montevideo (Uruguay), recently bought 4 super post panamax cranes , outreach 60m, with the tandem spreader system, although not the dual hoist option. The  cranes will be build by ZPMC and are sheduled to be delivered Sept 2009. We would like to share information and experience about the use of the tandem spreader, statistics etc.  So Martin, I very much welcom yr initiative and hope you can convince other terminals to join the discussion.

Brgds, Joris Thys, President TCP

Dear Joris,

As I know you a bit now you should have a look in Antwerp as there are several trials going on about 2 x 40F container handling.

I assume you know the related terminals in Antwerp. Also Algeciras and Bremerhaven are doing some thoughts/ test etc.

PSA Hessenatie recently received 5 cranes equipped as double hoist configuration.

Dear Ronald,

I will certainly contact dick,

I know  the spreaders of Stinis very well and they are very reliable, maintenance friendly,

I does happen that we bought 4 super post panamax ZPMC cranes and they included the spreaders

for the tandem twin operations, so let see what the result is ...
