Hi.

We need to buy a crane for our terminal. It is a small terminal and we won’t have access to the official technical service so we are evaluating what crane we should buy. What will you recommend us?

You should get a Gottwald. They require less maintenance so if you cannot access the official technical support, it looks like the best alternative.

What are you looking for? A big crane, a small one, container, bulk cargo, etc?

Liebherr cranes are very good but most of their technology has been designed exclusively for them so if something fails you have to call Liebherr. Any operational failure or need to access the control system ends up in Liebherr (even for emergency managers!).If you don’t have access to support, you might have your crane stopped for quite a while before you get the assistance you need. Gottwald, on the other side, uses Siemens technology which is open and simple. Any trained worker can access the control system if authorized by the management and modify the parameters as needed, especially on emergencies! So, if you are in a 3rd world country or have no access to their technical support, Gottwald would be a better option. You would have to look for a Gottwald crane that fills your needs.

25 ton for grab operation. Similar to the Liebherr 100. Thanks.

Then think about the Gottwald HMK 90 that can handle 18t or 30t.

In a Liebherr Harbour Mobile crane the work area limitation is very simple to use. You just need to teach to the crane control unit where are the limits of your working area by pushing a push button when you are at each of those area limits and the crane will always stop the movements if you try to pass over those limits afterwards.

Dear Alberto

I think that what you say is true in your country but in some other 3rd world countries like mine it doesn t work like that.

I do not think that Liebherr cranes are hard to repair specially if you have good technicians in your staff that were trained at Liebherr factory when you buy the Liebherr crane, this is normally included in the purchasing price of the crane.

I just recommend to you to have good skilled electromechanic technicians in your staff and they will be as good with the Liebherrs as they are with the Gottwalds. It is all about training.Best Regards
